Born in the UK and raised in Spain, Luke began his journey in the semiconductor industry 28 years ago in sales and distribution. It was not long before he was able to combine his passion for avionics with his profession, providing technology solutions in to the aerospace and defence sectors. Today as Director of Aerospace & Defence at Rochester Electronics, Luke works with global aerospace and defence organisations to address semiconductor lifecycle risk and long-term supply continuity. With extensive experience supporting high-reliability and safety-critical programmes, Luke focuses on proactive obsolescence management, counterfeit risk mitigation, and strategic semiconductor lifecycle planning. Rochester Electronics partners with OEMs and their supply chains, to ensure platform longevity in an increasingly complex global supply environment. Luke is a regular industry speaker and advocate for moving from reactive component management to intelligence-driven lifecycle strategies.

    Beyond End-of-Life: Rethinking Semiconductor Obsolescence in Aerospace

    Managing obsolescence in aerospace involves extending the life of 1st/2nd generation systems, often without full documentation or original engineers. Legacy avionics remain common, but retrofitting them to meet modern standards is complex and costly. Integration of new hardware/software with outdated architectures requires deep understanding of original design rationale. Key technical challenges include sourcing end-of-life components, mitigating the risk of counterfeit parts, and maintaining or refactoring legacy codebases. How do we retain engineers with domain expertise in legacy systems and manage compliance and safe system modernization.
