Jorge PEREIRA performs duties in the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL), as the Head of Civil-Military Communications, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) and Security Unit within the Civil-Military Cooperation Division (CMC).
Jorge PEREIRA leads a Unit that promotes infrastructure and security solutions to enhance civil-military interoperability and resilience for the aviation system. His Unit’s unique military engineering and security skills are vital to achieve a dual-use infrastructure capable to sustain interoperable, safe, secure and resilient military operations in Europe.
His team delivers direct specialized support and technical guidance to military aviation programmes and operations while cooperating with the Network Manager to ensure the permanent monitoring of adequate infrastructure performance, resilience and safety. This team delivers also contributions to research (SESAR) and specific support and training on ATM and aviation security.
Jorge PEREIRA has a particular interest in emerging performance-based concepts and alternative compliance approaches leading to the dual-use of avionics capabilities for State aircraft, CNS infrastructure rationalisation and technology convergence as well as infrastructure resilience and innovative research to limit the impact of aviation modernisation upon military.
Jorge Pereira is the Chairman of the EUROCONTROL Civil-Military CNS/ATM Interoperability Focus Group (CNS FG) and Co-Chairman of the NATO-EUROCONTROL Security Coordination Group (NEASCOG).
Before EUROCONTROL, between 1981 and 2002, serving at the Portuguese Air Force (PoAF), Jorge Pereira’s military career was mainly devoted to policy, regulatory and technical engineering aspects of Communications and Information Systems (CIS), Information Security, Spectrum and Command and Control (C2) systems.
Jorge PEREIRA holds a Master Degree on Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering and studied the use of software-defined technologies for flexible avionics in the context of a PhD at Brussels University (ULB).

    CIV-MIL interoperability
